Estimate a finished-product citral budget
Use this calculator to estimate how much of a citral-bearing oil could fit within a finished-product concentration limit. The other-source value is a finished-product percentage; the oil value must be a confirmed mass-fraction (w/w) percentage in that raw material. Do not use a GC peak-area percentage as though it were a w/w value. Check supplier documents first: a stated “total citral” may already include its isomers, so do not count the same amount twice.
It follows the working interpretation explained in the citral and essential oils guide: add citral, geranial and neral from all sources and compare the total with the product-type limit. The Regulation does not spell out that aggregation in those words. An assessor must confirm the classification, source data and interpretation for the product.
Estimate a citral concentration budget
Enter the other-source total as a percentage of the finished product. The oil value is citral by weight in the raw material. Use a confirmed mass-fraction (w/w) value, not a GC peak-area percentage. Check supplier documents first: a stated “total citral” may already include its isomers, so do not count the same amount twice.
Enter 0–100%, using a period and no more than six decimal places.
Use the lot-specific certificate. This estimate uses the guide’s working interpretation that entry 70 covers citral, geranial and neral together.
Nothing is calculated until all three inputs are valid.
This is a concentration-budget aid, not a safety assessment or a compliance decision. Confirm product classification, source data and the current legal text with the responsible assessor.
Regulation (EC) 1223/2009 Annex III has separate fragrance-allergen declaration thresholds: over 0.001% for leave-on products and over 0.01% for rinse-off products. These are separate from the concentration limits above. This tool does not decide whether a label is correct.
What the estimate means
The output is an arithmetic concentration budget based on the values entered. It does not assess product safety, replace a lot-specific certificate, decide whether the legal category fits, or confirm compliance. It does not calculate labelling obligations. Annex III labelling thresholds are separate from the maximum concentrations; check the current consolidated legal text and the finished product's composition.
The limits shown are from Regulation (EU) 2026/909, Annex III entry 70. The separate fragrance-allergen labelling thresholds are in Regulation (EC) 1223/2009, Annex III. For the interpretation, category notes and lot-by-lot workflow, read the full guide.
